Prof. Yao Tandong, Director of ITP was invited to the ceremony of 2005 Tylor Environmental Prize, which is to be held in Los Angeles on April 7th this year.

ITP publicized the news after the reception of Prof. Yao's invitation letter from the University of Southern California, US, the administration of the prize.

The Tyler Prize was established by the late John and Alice Tyler in 1973. The Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement is the premier award for environmental science, energy and medicine conferring great benefit upon mankind.

Through their work, Tyler Laureates have focused worldwide attention on environmental problems by their discoveries and the solutions that resulted.

In 2002, Prof. Liu Dongsheng, CAS academician won the prize for his contribution to the study of yellow soil in China and paleo-climatic chages, thus accredited yellow soil to be another paleo-environmental record besides marine sediments and ice cores.

The invitation of Prof. Yao this year to the ceremony demonstrates that Chinese Tibetan Plateau research has drawn international attention with its contribution to the scientific community. We will take this opportunity to quicken the institute’s pace in going high-level and international.
